Juicing for Weight Loss
When it comes to your options for weight loss, there are a multitude of diets from which you can choose. One of the more popular diets is the water detox diet, which is purported to clean your body of toxins and help you lose weight. Unfortunately, simply living on water and little else for more than a few days can have serious consequences to your health and well-being. To combat this, many dieters are turning to juicing for weight loss. Put simply, ‘juicing’ means consuming juice from fruits and vegetables as your sole source of nutrients for the day.

Drinking juice for weight loss is superior to weight loss supplements because you’re actually supplying your body with much needed vitamins and minerals. You already know that fruits and vegetables are an important part of a healthy and balance diet; the juice diet simply takes that wisdom a step further. By replacing half of your meals, 2 meals if you have 3 each day and 3 if you eat six or more meals each day, you will lose weight and improve your health.
How it Works?
The juicing diet works because the vitamins and minerals you receive from the fruits and vegetables allow your body to work at optimal capacity. The enzymes and micro-nutrients present in fruits and vegetables improve your immune system and give you more energy. The reason juicing to lose weight is purported to work is that the juice eliminates those cravings and hunger pains we sometimes experience between meals. Furthermore, the juice itself acts as a natural appetite suppressant.
Despite the known benefits of a juicing diet, including weight loss, there is no conclusive evidence that the juice diet will speed up your metabolism. Without that guarantee, dieters are left wondering if the weight loss is due to the juice or the lack of sustenance in the body.
Positives
The juice diet does have its advantages, including adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet, thus more of the vitamins and minerals your body needs. There are no downsides to adding a larger variety of foods and vegetables to your diet, even if you decide juicing isn’t for you. Perhaps the most appealing, and therefore believable, claim made by the juicing diet is that it isn’t a weight loss quick fix.
While on the juice diet you would replace half of your meals with juice, but that doesn’t mean that you can conveniently forget to add physical activity to your daily regimen. Cherie Calbom and Maureen Keane, writers of Juicing for Life, encourage daily exercise in conjunction with the juice diet to ensure weight loss. Without regular exercise, the authors explain, the juice diet is simply intended to improve your health.
Negatives
Perhaps the biggest disadvantage of juicing for weight loss is that purchasing organic fruits and vegetables as recommended, can stretch your budget to its limit. This simple problem can be overcome by thoroughly rinsing non-organic fruits and vegetables in your diet. Another expense is finding a juicer that can handle daily juicing, but if diet is something you want to consider, a basic electric juice should do the trick. These are all obstacles that are easy to overcome with a little research to find the most inexpensive options for your budget.
Although juicing for weight loss has proven effective, no scientific evidence proves that juicing affects your metabolism in a way that’s conducive to weight loss. When you factor in hormone and hereditary factors surrounding your weight problems, juicing may not be the answer.
The Verdict
Even if you decide that juicing for weight loss isn’t for you, consider fruit and vegetable juice as a great snack to curb those sugar cravings. While you work on eating properly and getting regular exercise, consider juicing as an added supplement to your diet. Get the vitamins and minerals you need without pills, and suppress your appetite without unhealthy supplements. Juicing isn’t a cure-all for your weight loss problems, but it will put you on the right track for healthy weight loss.
